FUNKEN Extend | 28.11.2025 I Vox X Machina I Vernissage
On 28 November, you can experience worlds of sound. And you decide what you hear, simply by the way you walk. Immerse yourself in the world of virtual sound exploration for voices and machines.

Experience from the FUNKEN Kolleg shows: Collaboration with artists inspires companies to take new creative approaches and promotes technological innovation. With FUNKEN Extend – Vox Ex Machina, we are experiencing a development that is unique in this form.
Vox Ex Machina is the innovative result of a cross-sector collaboration. Frederike Moormann, Lefteris Krysalis and embeat, together with Pinpoint GmbH, have brought together artistic vision and entrepreneurial pragmatism. The spatial composition is the second iteration of the work Rattling Landscapes, Singing Motors and is based on the further developed prototype of a head-tracked spatial audio installation that combines interior geolocalisation with an audio experience. Visitors use headphones to immerse themselves in a virtual sound reality, which they shape themselves by moving through the old machine factory in Gießerstraße.
The sound installation Vox Ex Machina invites visitors to experience a new type of technology and at the same time trace the voices of a bygone factory building. Once a production site for huge industrial machines, the empty space is now brought to life by rattling, hissing and singing – voices and machines merge into a single presence.
Like many European cities, Chemnitz has undergone a profound industrial transformation that has left its mark and at the same time spawned new industries. What remains – despite the change to quieter, no longer oily “devices”? How can we trace the ghosts inherent in the places of industrial upheaval?
